Details from Same Sky

Burning the Clocks marks the shortest day of the year. People carry paper and willow lanterns through the streets of Brighton to the seafront, where the lanterns are passed into a bonfire and the night ends with fireworks.

It is run by the Brighton arts charity Same Sky. It took a break in 2025 and returns in 2026.

Good to know: it is free to watch along the route and on the seafront. Check the route and times with Same Sky nearer the day.

Getting there

Brighton station is about 15 minutes' walk from the seafront. Parking in the centre is hard on the night.

Going as a group? Our 16-seat minibuses take you from your door to the event and home again.
