Lewes Bonfire Night 2026

The biggest Bonfire Night in Britain: torch-lit processions, bands, giant effigies and fireworks through the streets of Lewes.

Thu 5 Nov 2026
From about 17:00, processions into the late evening
Free to watch (some bonfire sites sell tickets in advance)

Programme and details

Lewes keeps Bonfire Night on 5 November itself, whatever day of the week it falls on. In 2026 that is a Thursday.

The town's bonfire societies march through the streets in costume with flaming torches, marching bands and huge effigies, then each society lights its own bonfire and fireworks display at its fire site around the town.

Good to know: the town centre is closed to traffic for the evening and the trains are very busy. Some societies sell tickets for their fire sites in advance. Check the full programme with the organisers before you go.

Getting there

Lewes station is right in the town, but the trains are packed on the night and the roads into Lewes close in the afternoon.

Going as a group? Our 16-seat minibuses take you from your door to the event and home again.
